The Southern Oregon Coast includes North Bend through Brookings . The southern coastline does not get quite the same attention as the North and Central Coast of Oregon from visitors, but only because of driving distance rather than beauty or amenities.
North Bend and Coos Bay are both rich with history. Some of the early industries in the area included timber harvesting, shipbuilding, farming, coal mining and salmon canning. You can enjoy the Mill Casino, or drive west to Charleston and visit some spectacular spots on the Pacific Ocean.
In Bandon, you will find a world-class golf resort which is hosted at Bandon Dunes. Next you come to Port Orford the oldest town on the Oregon coast. Then Gold Beach, named after a beach near the mouth of the Rogue River where miners mined for gold. On the far end of the Southern Oregon Coast is Brookings named after John E. Brookings, president of the Brookings Lumber and Box Company. Here you will find a beautiful beach that is just a hop skip and a jump from the California Border and unbelievable Old Growth Forests.
